From Karachi’s humidity to Lahore’s dry heat, Pakistani summers are tough on skin. Sweat, oil, dust and intense UV all add up to breakouts, tan and dullness. A good summer skincare routine for Pakistan does not need ten products. Four simple steps, done consistently, work better than a crowded shelf.
Why summer is hard on your skin
Heat makes your skin produce more oil, sweat mixes with dust and pollution, and strong sunlight deepens tan and dark spots. At the same time, heavy creams can feel sticky and clog pores. The goal in summer is to keep skin clean, lightly hydrated and protected from the sun.
Step 1: Gentle cleanse, twice a day
Use a mild face wash or herbal soap morning and night. If you sweat heavily during the day, a quick rinse with plain water is better than a third wash, which can strip your skin and make it produce even more oil. If your skin is oily or breakout-prone, a bar with tea tree and salicylic acid such as our HGC Turmeric Soap is a good fit. You can read more in our guide to the best soap for oily and acne-prone skin.
Step 2: A lightweight serum
Niacinamide is ideal for summer because it helps control shine and keeps skin tone looking even. Apply 2 to 3 drops after cleansing, on slightly damp skin. Not sure whether you need niacinamide or vitamin C? Our comparison of niacinamide vs vitamin C serum explains the difference. Try the HGC Niacinamide Tone-Correcting Serum if you want a simple place to start.

Step 3: Gel moisturizer
Swap heavy creams for an oil-free gel moisturizer. Your skin still needs water, even when it feels oily. Skipping moisturizer is a common reason oily skin ends up shinier and more irritated.
Step 4: Sunscreen, every single day
This is the most important step for preventing tan and dark spots. Use SPF 50, apply about two finger lengths for the face and neck, and reapply every two to three hours when outdoors. Choose a light, non-greasy formula that you will actually wear.
A simple morning and night routine
- Morning: cleanse, serum, gel moisturizer, SPF 50.
- Night: cleanse (twice if you wore sunscreen or makeup), serum if needed, gel moisturizer.
Summer skincare mistakes to avoid
- Skipping sunscreen on cloudy days or indoors near windows.
- Washing your face five or six times a day.
- Trying several new active products at once.
- Scrubbing hard to remove tan, which irritates the skin.
- Sleeping in sweat or sunscreen without cleansing.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best skincare routine for oily skin in Pakistani summers?
Cleanse twice a day, use a lightweight niacinamide serum, a gel moisturizer and SPF 50 every morning. Keep the routine short and consistent.
Do I need a moisturizer if my skin is oily?
Yes. Choose an oil-free gel. Properly hydrated skin tends to produce less excess oil.
How often should I reapply sunscreen?
Every two to three hours when you are outdoors, and after heavy sweating.
Can I use a herbal soap on my face in summer?
Many people do. Choose a gentle bar made for the face, patch test first, and moisturize afterwards. If you have a skin condition or persistent acne, check with a doctor or dermatologist.
